The Many Purposes of Saliva

Saliva is produced in the buccal cavity or the mouth of humans and plays an important part in the process of digestion. It is created and secreted by the salivary glands. There are a total of six salivary glands in the mouth. These are the parotid, submandibular and sublingual glands. The sublingual glands are located below the tongue, the submandibular glands are present below the lower jaw and the parotid glands are below and in front of the ears.
